The Dahlia

An officemate had given us fresh cut dahlias from his garden the other day. Aren't they pretty? I've fallen in love with this particular species since another officemate who love to garden gave me some bulbs early this year. I guess it's because it resembles the sunflower and they come in the most amazing colors and sizes.

We just moved last year to our new home and one of its selling points was that it had just the right size garden, nicely landscaped and neatly planned. I've been trying to introduce more flowers in the red and yellow shades. Although I have a couple of topiary rose bushes, the color scheme is basically in the lavander and blue tone. Roses for me are pretty much hard to maintain although I've seen some of our neighbors have really maintained beautiful rose bushes around the perimeter of their homes. I just think I can't spare the time to garden that much during the weekend and so I think Dhalias are for our type of a gardener. They are very easy to grow and some of them can really tough the weather. Of course I think the one thing that really interest me is that because to its face size, I get to enjoy them at a distance. Just got my first yellow bloom from the garden but am definitely in the mood to shop for more.
